GOULBURN & SURROUNDING DISTRICTS
THE BIG MERINO
The ‘World’s Biggest Merino is a 3 storey structure of concrete and steel measuring 15.2 metres high and 18 metres long. The gift shop displays an eclectic range of quality gift wear, featuring quality products made from fine Australian merino wool, Australian souvenir items and locally made products such as baby bassinet and cot blankets, verjuice, soaps, olive oils, jams, chutneys and sauces.
HISTORIC GOULBURN WATERWORKS
This unique facility is the only complete, workable, steam powered municipal water supply left in its original location in the Southern Hemisphere. The buildings and engine are of national significance and are now protected by a permanent conservation order. Open Sundays from 10am to 4pm, and Monday and Tuesdays from 9am to 2pm. Steam engines operational one day each month.
WAR MEMORIAL & MUSEUM
Goulburn War Memorial was built as a lasting tribute to the gallant men of Goulburn and district who served in World War I. It was opened in 1925. The War Memorial is a square tower of stone conglomerate and concrete standing 20 metres high, with Rocky Hill as it’s pedestal. Inside the tower is a tablet inscribed with the names of those who enlisted from the district. The lookout gallery at the top of the Memorial gives unparallel views of Goulburn and the surrounds. The Lookout is open 7 days a week from 7am-5pm.
GOULBURN BREWERY
The Goulburn Brewery complex houses much more than the brewery itself. There is also a malting, a steam powered flour mill, cooperage, tobacco curing kiln, as well as a mews of stables and workers’ cottages – all designed as an integrated industrial complex by colonial architect Francis Greenway. A visit to Goulburn is incomplete without a conducted tour of this special place in Australian history. Open Fridays, Saturdays & Sundays from 10am. Enjoy tours, tastings and lunch. Dinner is by appointment only.
HORSE RACING
The home of racing in the Goulburn District providing some of the best thoroughbred racing in country NSW, with the highest quality facilities for visitors, trainers and horses. Goulburn has a long association with horse racing, with records indicating that racing commenced in 1838. Under cover betting ring with Tote and bookmaker betting facilities. Race day childcare is available on request. Tours of the facility are available on request as well.
WAKEFIELD PARK RACE WAY
For the ultimate adrenalin day, visit Wakefield Park – one of NSW’s premier motorsport venues. Aside from private track bookings during the week, the general public are always welcome to drive their own car on Speed off the Street Days or experience the thrill of hot laps as a driver or passenger in one of Wakefield’s V8 race cars.
CYCLE TRAILS & ACTIVITIES
Goulburn and the surrounding countryside is a great place to cycle and enthusiasts come from far and wide to enjoy these great rides.
WOLLONDILLY RIVER & COVERNOR MACQUAIRE HISTORIC WALKING TRAILS
One of Goulburn’s most significant sites, Marsden Weir and Water Works was the city’s first reticulated water supply. Dating from 1883, the steam pumping machinery in the Water Works is the only example of its kind remaining intact in the Southern Hemisphere. On special occasions and some public holidays the steam engine is fired up.

Looking for something special? Goulburn has many antique shops, art galleries, book shops, collectables and 2nd hand shops to visit.
BAXTERS SHOE FACTORY
Handcrafted since 1850 – the boots Australia loves. The tradition hasn’t changed much, nor has the tough quality that Australian’s have come to expect from a handcrafted icon – Baxter Boots. The attention is in the detail. The Baxter boot making dynasty began when Henry Baxter bought one of the country’s oldest boot manufacturing companies founded in Goulburn in 1850.
KINGSDALE
You are invited to try Kingsdale’s wines at their limestone-clad cellar door, which overlooks Lake Sooley. They are located on the Crookwell Road, a seven-minute (7km) drive north of Goulburn. Group Tours are $5 entry per person; this cost is refundable with a wine purchase. Coffee and light refreshments are also available as well as a small selection of locally-made handcrafts. The Cellar Door is open for tasting and sales from 10am to 5pm on weekends or at other times by appointment.
LERIDA ESTATE
Lerida Estate Winery is located at the foot of the Cullerin Range overlooking the mysterious Lake George. The courtyard has a BBQ that can be used by visitors. Lerida Estate makes a range of premium wines to suit all tastes and budgets, from the much sought after Pinot Noir, to superb Pinot Gris, Chardonnay, Shiraz, Shiraz Viognier, Merlot, a fabulous dessert wine, a Botrytis Pinot Gris and sparkling wine. Cellar door facilities are open 7 days a week and Cafe Lerida is open Saturday and Sunday 10am-5pm.
